PENALTY SHOOTOUT

Five each. Then nerves.

Pick a corner. The keeper is reading you, and the shootout stops the moment it is decided.

Choose a side
The rules are the real ones.
  • Five kicks each, taken alternately.
  • It stops the moment one side cannot be caught — if you are three ahead with two to take, nobody takes them. This is the rule most games forget, and it is why a shootout can end 3–0 after seven kicks.
  • Level after five each, it goes to sudden death: one kick each, and the first side ahead after an equal number wins.
Aim at one of six parts of the goal. The corners are harder to keep out and harder to hit — a shot into the top corner beats a keeper who guesses right more often than not, and misses the target more often too.
